Silver City, NM at a Glance
Silver City resides on the southern edge of the Gila
National Forest and Wilderness region. This Grant Country community holds
numerous historic ties to mining, agriculture and ranching. Preserving and embracing
these regional, cultural and historic connections is characteristic to the citizens
and practices of Silver City. The Gila National Forest encompasses the city with
3 million acres (1.2 million ha) of wilderness, where visitors can cross-country
ski, camp, fish, backpack and more. Fans of competitive rodeo gather annually
for Silver
City’s Wild Wild West Pro Rodeo. Events include roping, bull riding and fast
riding. The annual Silver
Springs Blues Festival attracts local blues musicians and their fans for a
series of concerts, street dances and vendors. Just southeast of the city is the
one-square-mile City
of Rocks State Park. Here, rock formations that were created by a volcanic
eruption reach elevations of 5,200 ft (1586 m).
